The British Council seeks to identify, by means of an invitation to tender,  a firm offering consultancy services to map the international student and alumni landscapes across Latin America, with special emphasis on Brazil and Mexico. 

The consultancy will provide useful insights to the regional team, helping to shape a strategy, map and benchmark the current landscape and begin to build audiences.

The consultancy is set to focus on 3 main components:

  • Stakeholder and influencer mapping: key agents and  agent’s networks across Brazil,  Mexico, Peru and  Colombia; mapping key  funding  mechanisms  for  students  from Brazil,  Mexico, Peru  and Colombia, including national government   scholarships or loans and private scholarships or loans;  mapping key Alumni networks and groups around the region, including Brazil and Mexico as priorities, and Peru, Colombia, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Cuba and Argentina as a secondary priority.
  • Benchmarking the UK as a study destination: Identify trends in international student numbers from Brazil,  Mexico, Peru and Colombia, making a comparison to the USA, Canada and Australia. Analyse percentage of students studying in the UK using 1) solely personal funds, 2) combination of personal funds and external funding , and 3) solely external funds. Identify key UK cities for students, and describe students' needs,  interests, behaviours, attitudes, concerns and barriers related to higher education abroad.
  • Alumni UK list building: Contact alumni with key messages from the global programme, inviting them to sign up to the British Council's network; and identify “high potential Alumni" in Brazil and Mexico.

It is expected the consultancy will produce as key deliverables:  a workplan approved by the British Council; three written reports and details of the mapping exercises; a report of the Benchmarking study with recommendations for UK institutions on student recruitment approach to the selected countries in the Americas;  a list growth for Alumni UK,  and “high potential Alumni; as well as a report with recommendations on key strategies to engage these networks.
